I enjoyed "Justice" by Emily Conrad. Jake and Brooklyn are good friends and Jake expects to marry her one day. But then he finds out that she is pregnant and she won't say who the father is. She says she will never marry. Can Jake and Brooklyn overcome all that is against them. There is danger and a mystery. Good read! I plan to read more from Ms. Conrad.
I received this book from NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
Justice is a pretty good read. I have not read anything by this author before and hope to in the future. This is a quick read, but do not let that fool you. It is well written with likable and relatable characters. It is full of events that lead to faith, love, hope, and inspiration. I think those who love a book full of messages of God will enjoy this one.
I give Justice four stars and recommend it.
I received this back from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Emily Conrad's debut novel, "Justice" does not disappoint! This book deals with the trials, the messiness, and the injustice reality throws at us, and yet this book inspires and shows how amazing God is and how He can use any situation for His glory. Emily Conrad did a fantastic job at bringing the characters to life, following Brooklyn as she copes and triumphs after a sexual assault. And following Jake as he battles with revenge. The settings, downtown and Jake's coffee shop were all told real ...more
Youth pastor/coffee shop owner Jake has a few lessons to learn about vengeance and trusting God's plan when his BFF/forever crush, Brooklyn, turns up unexpectedly expecting. We went on quite the roller coaster with Jake as he struggled with his feelings for Brooklyn, his desire to help her, and drive for revenge for several completely understandable reasons. I really felt for him, as I know the helpless frustration that comes from wanting nothing more than to fix a problem for someone I love, an ...more
This is definitely a book you will want to pick up and cherish for a very long time. It's a great story to share with our teens as well. This book takes on heavy subjects but they are worth it when we look at how lavishly God loves us. Pick up this book and don't delay. You will be all the more filled with promise and hope with it. Thank you to Emily for writing this gem.
Emily Conrad has chosen an emotionally charged premise for her debut novel, and it’s one that cannot help but engage the reader—all the more so for the way in which she handles it. Pregnancy is life-changing no matter how or when it occurs, but Brooklyn’s circumstances take life-changing to a whole new level. Add a bitter and competitive business owner into the picture and you have a situation ripe for character growth and meeting some of the big challenges to living out your Christian faith hea ...more
Amazing. Once I started reading I was hard pressed to put it down. Jake and Brooklyn are amazing characters who live on after the last page is turned. Not to be missed.
Forgiveness and rape are not easy subjects to write about convincingly, but Emily has done it. The strengths of this book are the dialogue and the characters. I love the coffee shop setting and the small town-yearning-for-a-bigger-heart feel. Jake and Brooklyn do not disappoint. Their love story feels real because it isn't easy. Honest and very well done.
