Small Town Rumors Reviews
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
I enjoyed this book, but I have to admit that the small town cliches got to be a bit much for me. Growing up and living in a small town, I know how rumors fly, how juicy the fruit on the grapevine can be, but this book put it over the top. Don't get me wrong, a lot of what is written is truth, but I think the rumor mill was over used.
Jennie Sue's relationship with her parents is also something the town likes to gossip about ...more
I can't say enough about this wonderful, funny, heart wrenching, witty story. Carlyon Brown takes her readers on adventure in a small town rife with rumours about what has brought Jennie Sue Baker back to her hometown of Bloom from New York... Her mother is keeping secrets, her dad is trying to keep secrets, but everyone in town knows what he is up too. Jennie Sue is just trying to live with what is true and to hell what her mother what to keep covered up. When she starts to hang out with what h ...more
DNF-ed at 62%. Way too slow moving, and the characters' speech patterns were starting to really grate on me. Not sure Jennie Sue had any flaws at all beyond indecisiveness...I almost didn't blame Cricket for her suspicions about her, even though most of the book is from Jennie Sue's POV and we know from that fact that she's really just that nice.
Obviously it's just me...everyone else seems to enjoy the book. This is my first book from this author; the jury is still out about trying another.
When you think of Small Town, America you usually think quaint town squares, apple pies and gathering around the barber shop but anyone who has seen movies like Something to Talk About, Steel Magnolias, and Sweet Home Alabama you also know that small towns are hotbeds of gossip. Everyone knows everything about everyone and usually about 2.5 seconds after it happens.
Carolyn Brown's Small Town Rumors takes that hotbed and with it, spins a delightful tale of starting over, coming into your own and ...more
Being from a small town I could definitely relate to the rumour mill. I really enjoyed Jennie Sue’s journey to find herself after her failed marriage. The dynamics between the characters was great and I loved the building romance between Rick and Jennie Sue.
"On a slow day, gossip hung over the town like smoke in an old western honky-tonk. On a good day, in the opinion of the community, it obliterated the sun."
This time, Carolyn Brown is taking us to the small town of Bloom, Texas where Jennie Sue Baker, the ex-wife of a rich man will have the tongues wagging when she come back in town, after the jerk ran off with a bag of diamonds and another woman and temporary take a post as a cleaning lady for a couple of folks.

Small towns are rife with gossip. It is the oxygen that feeds a fire and rather than put it out the people in this town prefer to fan the flames.
Jenny Sue and Rick are from Bloom, Texas, but from different sides of the track. They are both kind, loving, sweet people who have suffered terribly. Rick is a Veteran who i ...more
