Lies You Never Told Me

Gabe and Elyse have never met. But they both have something to hide.Quiet, shy Elyse can't believe it when she's cast as the lead in her Portland high school's production of Romeo and Juliet. Her best friend, Brynn, is usually the star, and Elyse isn't sure she's up to the task. But when someone at rehearsals starts to catch her eye--someone she knows she absolutely shouldn't be with--she can't help but be pulled into the spotlight. Austin native Gabe is contemplating the unthinkable--breaking up with Sasha, his headstrong, popular girlfriend. She's not going to let him slip through her fingers, though, and when rumors start to circulate around school, he knows she has the power to change his life forever. Gabe and Elyse both make the mistake of falling for the wrong person, and falling hard. Told in parallel narratives, this twisty, shocking story shows how one bad choice can lead to a spiral of unforeseen consequences that not everyone will survive....

I'm too paranoid to reveal anything by reviewing this so all I'll share about it is that I read it in one shot and sort of want to read it again now.

I’m floored that this is a debut novel and impressed it’s a YA thriller. The plot is tense and sinister while the characters are realistic high school teens. School plays and pep rallies are balanced with controlling dating relationships and life-threatening situations.

All of the characters are three-dimensional, but one shows signs of the kind of person who can ruin your life. As their stories unfold, we learn some are hiding secrets and there’s danger lurking beneath.

    There’s a break-up that e

This book is a great read for the age range this book is intended for, but don’t mistaken it not being a good read for those of us beyond that age range. I enjoyed Lies You Never Told Me. It wasn’t my top read of this year but it definitely held my interest enough to read it until the end. It can easily be a one-sit read. The story is told in multiple POV, which I have always been fond of as a reader, which allows us readers to really connect to each individual that

    3.5 rounded up!

Listened to this on audio and the strong narration was definitely a big plus! Around 40%, I had a strong hunch as to what the twist might be and I was ultimately right, which ruined a bit of the “oh-em-gee moment” for me, but still a fun ride, nonetheless!

Lies You Never Told Me was a page turner. I liked how the story went back and forth between Elyse in Portland and Gabe in Austin. Their lives were very different yet kind of the same. Elyse is a 16-year-old who decides to go out of her comfort zone and audition for the school play. She has a junkie for a Mom who can’t keep a job and can’t keep off the stuff so Elyse has had to grow up young and try to keep them in an apartment. Then there is Gabe who lives in Austin. Gabe’s girlfriend is very po ...more

I was hooked from the beginning! I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!

She meets Gabe, who she knows is totally wrong for her!

Gabe and Elyse both end up falling for the wrong person!!

Whoa! This one blew me away. I read an ARC copy and I really can't wait to see how this one explodes into popularity. It begins with alternating stories--great dialogue, fast paced, interesting characters but for sure you can see what's coming; it's like watching a slow moving train crash. At one point I even scoffed to myself 'well that was predictable' BUT, dear reader, you HAVE. NO. IDEA.

I think the author does a truly brilliant job of pulling of an epic plot twist at the end that is 100% le
