"Who am I to tell him not all pretty things are worthy of saving,
just as not all things worth saving are pretty."
Loved this one! Especially the poems in Part I because I felt so understood.
Thank you to Alicia Cook for selecting me to be one of your readers who got an early copy of your latest poetry book. All opinions are my own.
I rate this a 5 out of 5 stars.
I don't know that I've reviewed poetry on my blog before, but If you follow me on IG you know that I love Alicia Cook, I have since I came across her book "Stuff I've Been Feeling Lately" I relate to her, I've experienced some of the same things she has, so reading her words, resonates with me. I think she has an amazing tale ...more
Alicia Cook is a genius. She marches to the beat of her own drum and the world is better for it. I Hope My Voice Doesn't Skip bucks the expectations of modern poetry with incomparable grace. Do yourself a favor and buy this book. Read it. Love it. Share it. You'll be glad you did.
Alicia Cook's creativity never ceases to amaze me. She first shook up poetry in Stuff I've Been Feeling Lately, by coordinating music with each piece. With I Hope My Voice Doesn't Skip, she shakes it up once again. Alicia is taking poetry to new levels with every book release, setting the bar higher and higher for every writer out there.

They break the same, too."

As I often find with poetry collections, some of these poems spoke deeply to me, and others I couldn't connect with all. I could still see how they could be relate-able to others. I found the writing style to be easy to read, and easy to get lost in. I read it cover to cover, and hardly noticed the time passing. All in all, i feel like it would make a wonderful book for any poetry fans, or anyone interested in getting more familiar with poetry, but want something light.

one of the most powerful modern poetry books I've read in a while. there were three different times I was almost moved to tears (and that usually NEVER happens to me while reading). Alicia is a force to be reckoned with and this book absolutely shows that. I can't wait to see what she does next!!!
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with the ARC of I Hope My Voice Doesn't Skip in exchange for an honest review!
Someone please just give Alicia Cook all the awards. I read her mixtape, Stuff I've Been Feeling Lately last year and absolutely fell in love with Cook's poetry. When I saw this on Netgalley, of course I had to request it. The mixtape was incredible, but this was something else entirely. Poetry rarely moves me enough to make me cry, but I was sobbing throughout this. Having lost a f ...more
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Alicia Cook is back, with her best work to date. I love seeing writers grow. I love seeing writers give readers an honest glimpse into their lives. This is not one-size-fits-all poetry. I Hope My Voice Doesn't Skip is a diary, a time capsule. Reading this collection helped me to know the author better. That's very important to me when it comes to poetry. Am I Doing This Right? was by far, my favorite piece. I would have to quote the entire piec ...more
