Together Forever (Orphan Train #2) Reviews
Ms. Hedlund grasped my attention from the very first page of this second book in the Orphan Train series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, as it follows three sisters in the 1850's, each sister having her own story. While the first book is more concerned with the development of towns along the railroad, this story focused on the orphans that were brought west for nearly a half a century. As always, Ms. Hedlund's research is impeccable. My heart was not only invested in Marianne's story, b ...more
Ms. Hedlund has a gift for transporting the reader to a different time and place in her writing. Together Forever is no exception. Beginning in New York City with several orphans in need of permanent loving homes, Marianne and Drew work together with children of various ages and backgrounds. In their quest for placing these children the two develop a strong attraction that cannot be denied. The trip is not without tragic circumstances, however. Drew has secrets, as does Marianne. Those past secr ...more
I was so excited to finally join Bethany House reviews and this book's synopsis looked perfect.
Unfortunately, the book did not live up to my expectations at all.
Disclaimer: I did not finish the book. All thoughts are based on the first few chapters and what I skim read. I tried to only base my review on things I had read, not thing I assumed.
First off, I couldn't have cared less for the characters. The main girl believes in God, but believes He doesn't want her anymore because she's sinned. But ...more
Jody Hedlund does it again. I am blown away by what an amazing author she is. Somehow, within just a few short pages, she can pull you into a story and make you not want to leave until it is finished.
I have to be honest. I did not like Marianne as a character in the first book, With You Always, in this series. She just was not very likeable in my opinion. However, as soon as I started this book, that opinion changed, and she became a favorite character. Andrew was amazing. I love characters lik ...more
The author packed a lot of heart into the pages of this novel. It was impossible for me not to feel compassion for some of the sweet orphans who captured Marianne’s love on their journey west. I also really enjoyed the developing relationship between Drew and Marianne. Plenty of sparks there!
Drew and Marianne faced many things on this journey which put their fledgling relationship to the test. Could they let go of the guilt that they each carried around? Could they overcome the hurdles that aros ...more
An interesting look at what it was like to be a child or chaperone on an Orphan Train.
In Together Forever, main character Marianne is looking for her sister that she believes went on one of the trains. She is able to secure a position as an agent responsible for finding homes for children at different stops in Illinois. Her co-agent is Andrew Brady.
It was a sweet story with a touch of mystery.
Jody Hedlund never disappoints! I can always count on a good read when I pick up one her books and Together Forever was fantastic. This is book two of her Orphan Train series. I loved reading about Marianne's trip on the placing out train trip. Ms. Hedlund did a wonderful job of recreating the atmosphere of New York City and the desperation of people to provide a better life for their children. I loved the plot and the plot twists. I am eagerly looking forward to the next book! So grab your trav ...more
Together Forever is the second book in Jody Hedlunds Orphan Train series. Though this book can stand alone, I do recommend reading the first. It will help you better understand the characters in this read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It isn’t often, if ever, that I’ve read a book about this historical time period strictly from the point of view of those responsible for placing the orphans. It certainly gives one empathy for the task they chose to perform. It took much sacrificial love and giv ...more
