Cross Her Heart Reviews
Lisa can never fully be at ease as she cannot quite put her dark past behind her. A past she has worked very hard to keep secret from everyone in her life including her daughter Ava and her best friend Marilyn. Her priority is to keep her daughter safe and to give her the best life she can.
Ava feels her overpotective mother is overbearing at times. She would rather spend time with her group 'my bitches', her boyfriend Courtney and especially the man she met online and is now smitten over, havin ...more
There has been so much divisiveness with Pinborough's Behind Her Eyes, that I'm sure there are quite a few readers that are tripping around whether to read Cross Her Heart or not. Well, let me tell you... I LOVED Behind Her Eyes, but understood why it didn't fit some readers. While Pinborough is SO good with the twisty turns that you fall in love with in psychological thrillers, this book doesn't quite give you that #WTFThatEnding like Behind Her Eyes did. I mean that in the best way - so those ...more
‘The fear never truly leaves me. I’ve had lulls where I can almost let go of the past, but then a random moment like this triggers a panic and I realise it will always be there like hot tar glued to the lining of my stomach. And recently I’ve had this feeling, an unsettled disquiet, as if there’s something off-kilter I should see but I don’t. Maybe it’s me. My age. Hormones. Ava growing up. Maybe it’s nothing. But still…..’
Whoa my heart rate picked up quite a bit reading this book!

Sarah Pinborough's novels mess with my head. Seriously, when I read Behind Her Eyes I had strange, surreal dreams. With this book, Cross Her Heart, I felt distinctly unnerved each time I put it down as though I were still trapped within the pages. It's dark, unflinching and disturbing and there were parts of it I wanted to read from between my fingers. It's also quite heart-breaking in places. And of course, it's twisty as hell. I'd like to claim that I guessed the ending but Sarah stayed one st ...more
This is the first book I’ve read by Sarah Pinborough, but I’m certain it won’t be the last.
I was initially attracted to this book when a friend shared a post about it on her Facebook page, and I fell in love with the cover. It actually reminded me of one of my favourite fictional characters of all time. Pinhead from Clive Barker’s The Hellbound Heart. I am pleased to report that I did not encounter any scary Cenobites in this book. Phew!

Having adored "Behind Her Eyes" and totally enjoying the wacky ending it had, I was very much looking forward to reading Sarah Pinborough's latest offering "Cross Her Heart".
Although the storyline or ending to this one wasn't anywhere near as crazy, I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it to be a brilliantly written psychological thriller. The author had each of the character's dialogue tone perfect, switching between an angst teenager to a worried and concerned mother seamlessly. The quick alterna ...more
This is a brilliant, twisty story that will have you hooked from the first few chapters.
There are a few shocks in store as you go through the book but this is what I expected from Sarah Pinborough.
It’s hard to write a review without giving away any key parts of the story but I can say this is a gripping story about friendships, relationships and secrets.
We all know the saying “Cross your heart and hope to die,” well this is very apt for this book.
I really liked the main characters and felt a ...more
Having read and enjoyed Behind Her Eyes I was very much looking forward to reading Cross Her Heart and was absolutely delighted to receive a proof copy from Harper Collins.
The chilling prologue sets the scene and I had expectations of what was to come. With a timeline moving between Now, Before, and After and comprising of a multiple narrative, the story has those short chapters which I love and it didn’t take long to be completely immersed in the story. It was a book that I devoured in a couple ...more
