But do you know about the mathematical genius who made sure that Apollo 13 returned safely home?As a child, Katherine Johnson loved to count. She counted the steps on the road, the number of dishes and spoons she washed in the kitchen sink, everything! Boundless, curious, and excited by calculations, young Katherine longed to know as much as she could about math, about the universe. From Katherine's early beginnings as a gifted student to her heroic accomplishments as a prominent mathematician at NASA, this is the story of a groundbreaking American woman who not only calculated the course of moon landings but, in turn, saved lives and made enormous contributions to history....

Counting on Katherine: How Katherine Johnson Saved Apollo 13 Reviews
I really liked the flow of this one & design. Everyone's heard of Apollo 13, although Katherine Johnson is probably someone not too many folks know, which needs to change!
This is Hidden Figures for the younger set and is well worth its while. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but I think this book is even better at giving a coherent picture of how Katherine Johnson did what she did. If there is any critique I would make about the book, it would be that it doesn't make quite a big enough point about both the sexism and racism that she faced. Nevertheless, I would highly recommend it.
Loved the biography highlighting Katherine Johnson’s optimism and perseverance, and how it was so beautifully supported by the illustrations.
Amazing book about one of the women who did the calculations for NASA for space flight. It is amazing to think this was done well before computers. This is one of the women the movie "Hidden Figures" is about.
Biography of Katherine Johnson for young to middle grade readers.
The illustrations support the text and pull the reader into the her life story.
Takes us from childhood to after Apollo 13.
"The magnificent true story of Katherine Johnson. She was made famous by the film HIDDEN FIGURES, but her story starts much earlier. The book is full of inspiration, facts and wonderful artwork. It presents a truth that we need more than ever-you can overcome anything, any odds, if you work hard enough and do not accept the limitations put on you before you are ever born."-Bookie Luke
Having loved the film Hidden Figures enough to have bought the book that tells the story of Katherine Johnson's involvement in the space race, I was thrilled to find this picture book. Since it covers some of the similar territory from the film and then goes even further, readers will be immersed in the world of numbers and calculations so loved by Katherine even from a young age. Not only does the book tell about her formative years and her schooling but her job as a computer at NASA. Eventuall ...more
