A Glimmer of Hope (The Avalon Chronicles #1) Reviews
Layla Cassidy wanted a normal life. She kept herself hidden away from the lime light her serial killer father’s infamy brought. Right up until the day a group of purely evil and the vilest of people found her and took her. Now they want her to help them find her father’s secret where-a-bouts and they are not above using all their evil to force Layla to do it.
Trying to escape, Layla accidently activates and ancient scroll binding her with spirits and a demon’s power. Now she must master the powe ...more
Time to indulge in a bit of fantasy. Stories where anything goes are a very welcome change from the usual diet of crime and police procedurals I tend to favour. I love the idea that mythical creatures could be real, that they interact with humans or that they hide from them and live in the shadows.
Readers are introduced to Layla Cassidy, she is a kick-ass character who takes no nonsense. An unpleasant scene in the pub with her ex followed by a clash with annoying neighbours shows she is a girl w ...more
Great new series
I'm a big fan of the Hellequin novels and couldn't wait to get started on this new series. It expands the universe the author has created and introduces new characters but also throws in some familiar faces. Good fast paced story and some truly despicable villains make this a brilliant read, pre ordered the next one already and can't wait to read it.
High octane action and pure fun. This is amazing right outta the gate. Hit the ground running and never stopped. Monsters, mythology, and ancient scrolls - I'm giving the author a high five here.
Layla Cassidy's life is forever changed when she stumbles upon an ancient scroll. She's now on the run and doesn't know who to trust or what to believe. The secondary characters are awesomesauce! Mr. McHugh does an astounding job of giving each of them uniqueness and depth. The monsters are detailed viv ...more
With thanks to the author for the copy received.
Every now and again I love a bit of escapism in a novel and A Glimmer of Hope ticked all the boxes.
Humans are in the minority in this novel. Instead it consists of a variety of monsters from a world that we have all heard about in our childhood. One of the few humans in the novel describes it as dungeons and dragons and I can’t think of a more apt description.
There are many characters, the kindle’s search facility did come in handy at first. Some a ...more
3.5 stars. On the fence about rating... When I write review I will know clearer how many stars to pick.
Fantastic read - review to come.....
This arc has a lot of things going for it. It’s got a strong main character and starts off strong. There’s a villain POV and he’s a redcap. I liked how there were more monsters of fantasy in an urban setting, like redcaps and trolls.
Also the idea of a soul scroll was interesting.
But this book dragged after the halfway point. This book is set in a previously established world, and fans of the other series will like this addition to it. I’d recommend if you are in the mood for no romance urban f ...more
